Staledating, Data Retention, and Deletion

Understanding Staledating, Data Retention, and Deletion in Block 64

What Is Staledating?

Staledating is a feature in our platform that helps manage device visibility in reports. Regardless of license status, any device that has not been re-inventoried within a defined number of days (known as the staledate threshold) is considered staledated.

  • The default thresholds are:

    • Block 64 Discovery Application: 30 days

    • Block 64 Discovery Agent: 30 days

    • BlockBox Virtual Appliance: 90 days (customizable)

What Happens to a Device That Is Staledated?

Once a device surpasses the staledate threshold:

  • It will no longer appear in reports

  • It will be shown as greyed out in the Combine view

  • The underlying data is not deleted or destroyed

When Is Data Permanently Deleted from the Combine?

In line with our Data Retention Policy, if a site has no uploads (from any Block 64 tools) for 90 consecutive days, all associated data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

What If I Don't Want Data to Be Deleted?

We offer a persist feature to retain site data beyond the default 90-day window. If persistence is enabled:

  • The site and data remain available

  • However, devices that have not been re-inventoried will still disappear from reports

This feature must be explicitly requested, as data retention is set to auto-delete after 90 days of inactivity by default.

My License Is Still Valid—Why Was My Data Deleted?

Please note: data retention is based on the last upload date, not license validity. Even if your license is still active, if no uploads occur within 90 days, data will be deleted automatically.

What If I Want My Data Deleted Before the 90-Day Retention Period?

Yes, we can help with that. If you'd like your data deleted prior to the standard 90-day retention period, please raise a ticket with our Support Center. Our team will assist you in securely fulfilling this request.
