How we calculate the Product Install Count Insight and why might it be empty

The Product Install Count Insight provides visibility into the number of software products installed across your environment. It highlights the balance between commercial and non-commercial software and shows the most frequently installed commercial products.

This helps IT teams understand the software footprint across devices, supporting license management, compliance tracking, and optimization efforts.

How do we calculate this Insight?

This Insight is based on installed software inventory collected from endpoints in your environment using:

  • Block 64 Discovery Application

  • Block 64 Discovery Appliance

  • Block 64 Agent (where deployed)

It summarizes:

  • The total number of installs for all discovered products.

  • A commercial vs. non-commercial split for visibility into business-related vs. auxiliary software.

  • A ranking of the top installed commercial products, helping you quickly see which applications are most common across your devices.

Why might this Insight be empty or missing data?

This Insight should normally display results for any inventoried devices. It may appear empty or incomplete if:

  • The Discovery Appliance, Application, or Agent is not configured correctly and therefore not collecting software inventory.

  • Endpoints have not yet reported installed software because data ingestion is still in progress.

  • Customer data has not yet been imported or staged in the Insights platform.

Troubleshooting Checklist:

  • Confirm that the Block 64 Discovery Appliance, Application, or Agent is installed and actively reporting.

  • Verify that software inventory collection is enabled for all inventoried devices.

  • Allow time for initial data ingestion, especially in larger environments.

  • Check that the customer’s data import or staging process has completed successfully.
