How we calculate the Total Estimated Recoverable Private Compute Insight and why might it be empty

The Total Estimated Recoverable Compute Insight highlights unused or underutilized compute resources (CPU and memory) across your private cloud environment. It helps IT teams identify potential optimization opportunities by showing where capacity can be reclaimed and reallocated.

How do we calculate this Insight?

This Insight is based on inventory data collected using:

  • Block 64 Discovery Appliance (Block Box)

  • Block 64 Discovery Application (Block App)

It provides:

  • CPU Usage – showing active, unused, and overage CPU allocation across hosts.

  • Memory Usage – showing memory distribution and availability (where supported).

  • Recoverable compute capacity – expressed as reclaimable GHz or GB of memory across VMware, Hyper-V, and other supported platforms.

This gives you a clear view of how much compute power could be recovered and reused within your environment.

Why might this Insight be empty or missing data?

This Insight may appear empty or incomplete if:

  • The Discovery Appliance or Application has not been deployed correctly.

  • Data ingestion from your environment is still in progress.

  • Hosts are inaccessible or not reporting due to configuration or network restrictions.

Troubleshooting Checklist:

  • Confirm that the Discovery Appliance (Block Box) or Discovery Application (Block App) is deployed and active.

  • Allow time for initial data ingestion, especially in large or complex environments.

  • Verify that the discovery tool has access to your virtualization environment (e.g., VMware vCenter or Hyper-V).

  • Ensure that hosts are reachable during scans and not blocked by firewall or permissions settings.
