Managing Device Holds and Problem Devices
The Problem Devices report provides a summary of devices that have failed inventory attempts. It also offers the option to release holds on these devices for reattempting inventory.
Why Devices Are Placed on Hold
To prevent continuous unsuccessful attempts, devices that fail inventory a set number of times are automatically placed on a hold status. While on hold, no further attempts will be made until the device is manually released. This safeguard protects system resources and reduces unnecessary network traffic.
The threshold for failed attempts before a device is placed on hold can be configured in the Inventory Settings menu.
Removing Holds from Devices
You have two options to remove holds:
-
Individual Device Release:
-
Locate the device in the Problem Devices report.
-
Click the red button to the right of the device to remove the hold.
-
-
Bulk Hold Removal:
-
Go to the Actions menu.
-
Select Remove Holds on All Devices to clear holds for all devices at once.
-
Reattempting Inventory
Once the holds are removed, you can initiate inventory attempts using the On-Demand Tools. These tools provide a detailed and immediate view of the inventory process and are accessible from the top taskbar.
