Adding the Box Integration and Its Associated Insights

Overview

The Box connection in Block 64 enables secure, read-only access to file storage, sharing, and collaboration data from your organization's Box environment. This integration allows Block 64 to collect information about user activity, shared folders, group memberships, and licensing details to provide visibility into collaboration usage and cost optimization opportunities.

Once connected, the data collected from this integration appears in the following Block 64 Insights reports

  • Reports → SaaS → Usage – Displays user activity trends, adoption metrics, and inactive accounts.
  • Reports → SaaS → Licensing – Shows active license types, allocations, and subscription utilization.

The credentials needed for this Integration

To set up this integration, you'll need:

  • A Box account with Administrator privileges and the ability to authorize third-party apps.

This integration requires the following permissions:

  • View users, groups, and folder collaborations.
  • Retrieve account plans and billing information.
  • List active and inactive users across your organization.

Note: The Block 64 Box integration uses read-only API scopes — it cannot upload, modify, delete, or share files, and cannot make configuration changes to your Box environment.

How to add this Integration

  1. In the Block 64 portal, navigate to Integrations
  1. Select Box, enter your Box Administrator email, and click Connect
  1. You will be redirected to the official Box authorization screen.
  1. Review the permissions requested by Block 64 and click Allow to approve access. Required permissions include viewing user and group information, folder metadata, and account plan details.
  1. Optional permissions (such as billing and sub-account metrics) enable the integration to collect the full dataset. It is highly recommended to grant all optional permissions to ensure full visibility across usage, licensing, and billing data. Without these, only basic Usage data will be available — the full Licensing dataset will not be retrieved.
  1. Once authorized, you will be redirected back to the Block 64 portal, where the Box connection will be displayed as Active

Security & Privacy

  • All access is read-only — Block 64 cannot create, modify, delete, or share files, folders, or users.
  • File contents are never accessed; only metadata (user activity, folder structure, license type, etc.) is collected.
  • Permissions can be reviewed or revoked at any time in the Box Admin Console under Apps → Custom Apps

Why is this Integration failing?

If the integration isn't working or is returning incomplete data, it's usually due to one of the following reasons:

  • Missing optional scopes – If only the required permissions were granted, Block 64 can retrieve Usage data but not the full Licensing dataset. Reconnecting the integration and granting all optional scopes will enable complete reporting.
  • Insufficient permissions – The app was not approved by a Box admin or lacks the required API scopes.
  • Expired or revoked token – The authorization may have expired or been revoked from the Box Admin Console.
  • Incorrect account type – The connection must be created using an account with Admin or Co-Admin privileges.
  • Integration removed – The Block 64 integration may have been removed from your Box environment.

To fix this:

Reconnect the integration using a Box Admin or Co-Admin account. Ensure all required and optional scopes are granted when prompted to allow the full dataset access. In the Box Admin Console under Apps → Custom Apps, confirm that the Block 64 app remains active and authorized.

How to remove this Integration

From Block 64:

You can disable this integration temporarily by clicking on the Enable switch in the integration.

Alternatively, you can disconnect the integration entirely by clicking on the Disconnect button.

⚠️ Disconnecting will stop all Calendly usage data collection and reporting.

From Box:

  1. Sign in to your Box Admin Console.
  1. Navigate to Apps → Custom Apps
  1. Locate Block 64
  1. Click Remove to revoke access and delete the integration.
