Block 64 and Azure Migrate Integration Guide

Azure Migrate is Microsoft’s platform designed to simplify the process of migrating workloads to Azure. It provides high-level migration assessments and recommendations by analyzing infrastructure data, either collected directly through an Azure Migrate appliance or imported from third-party tools using a standardized CSV format.

For organizations using Block 64, we offer a built-in export feature that generates a compatible file for use within Azure Migrate, making it easy to transition from discovery to migration planning.

Step 1: Exporting Azure Migrate-Compatible Data from Block 64

Block 64’s analytics platform, The Combine, allows you to export Resource Utilization data directly in the format required by Azure Migrate.

To download the export:

  1. Log into the Block 64 Combine portal.

  2. Navigate to Cloud Migration → Dashboard.

  3. In the top-right corner, locate the Export Cloud Assessment button.

  4. Click the dropdown arrow beside it and select Azure Migrate.

  5. A CSV file will be generated, preformatted for Azure Migrate, and populated with utilization and inventory data collected by Block 64.

The structure of this export aligns with Microsoft’s required schema for Azure Migrate CSV imports.

Step 2: Uploading the File to Azure Migrate

Once you’ve downloaded your CSV from Block 64, you can upload it to an Azure Migrate project to generate migration assessments and cloud readiness recommendations.

To upload:

  1. Sign in to the Azure Portal.

  2. Search for and open Azure Migrate.

  3. Create or open an existing Azure Migrate project.

  4. In the Servers section, select Assess and migrate servers.

  5. Click on Import using CSV and follow the prompts to upload your Block 64 export file.

Once uploaded, Azure Migrate will process the data and display performance insights, right-sizing recommendations, and cost estimates for migrating your on-premises workloads to Azure.
